Printed Birdland

Today I finally finished carving this block and printed it. I think it turned out well! I realized that it's the biggest block I've printed by hand and I was struggling to hold the large sheet of paper. The paper is 26x17 inches and I have to lay it down in one swoop without bumping or shifting it or the ink will smear. It was a challenge.
I'll paint it in a couple days - can't wait!

  1. Jill, I love seeing these blocks you make, and the slight mental gymnastics of reversing the images in my imagination, but also the pleasure of seeing them in their non-inky whiteness. This one is especially gorgeous, I think.

  5. I know, Sherrie- I'll just suggest Birdland fly south and visit you in Salida. Set out the birdseed!

Penelope- Thanks for visiting my blog! I love block prints too. There is something so satisfying about all of the steps. Some people think it's a huge waste of time, but if you look at it like that isn't all art a waste of time?! We do it because we love the process of creating. And everyone has a different way of going about it. I think best with a carving tool in my hand!
