Heidi

I just read Heidi by Johanna Spyri for the first time! I don't know how I managed to miss it when I was younger since I read everything I could get my hands on. This is my interpretation of the opening of the book when Heidi's aunt is bringing her up the mountain to live with her grandfather.
I decided to do this because Tomie dePaola has selected this passage to illustrate for his award this year. Here's the info. I still have to paint this print and I'll post it when it's done.

  1. I loved the Heidi books but I've never revisited them as an adult. I remember there was one part that always made me cry (Heidi being separated from someone she loved I think...) so I used to skip those pages. I wonder if I'd be braver now? Your post and beautiful, beautiful print have inspired me to find out. I'm sure the book is still on a shelf somewhere!

  3. Thanks ladies! It's true Heidi has some sad parts, but somehow you always have the feeling that things will turn out ok. I think you should try reading it again, Anna! It will give you some insight into yourself when you were younger. I'm pretty sure you are brave enough to read the whole story now!
