Reading
My friend Penny's new book is coming out soon. One of Us written by Peggy Moss & illustrated by Penny Weber is beautifully illustrated. I can't wait to buy one!
There will be a launch party in NY in May. Tilbury House, the publisher is asking for illustrators to contribute to the party by donating a 4x6 piece of art for sale to benefit Powered by Girl. This is what I'm sending. Laying in the grass reading a book was one of my very favorite things to do as a teenager. Well, it still is.
Congratulations Penny!!

Ahead
Whatever lies ahead, it must be fun!
I did this illustration last fall for one of my stories, Maybelle and the Monsters. I've been starting to rework the dummy based on the critique I got from the lovely and talented Marla Frazee.

Ancient Storyboard
Look what I found! I took some of my early art home from the last visit to my Mom's house. I forgot where I put it, but in cleaning & rearranging my bookshelves I discovered I'd put it on the shelf sandwiched between big art books.
My brother and I used to draw on the backs of big sheets of computer paper brought home by our parents in the 70's. The paper was connected into a loooong zig-zag by perforated tear lines. There were holes on each end to help the paper feed through the computer. I remember the treasured sheets were blank on both sides, but most had printing that bled through a little bit.
I think I made this in third grade- based on the computer date on the other side of the sheet. I have since been working very hard on PLOT, and titles, and spelling, and drawing..... my take on perspective is about the same though!

A Lucky Scrap Book
Here are a couple of photos of a book I made from old manuscript pages, drawings, parts of an early storyboard, email queries, original reject linocuts, and critiques from my book A Lucky Day. I'm calling it a scrap book since it was made from the leftover scraps that went into writing the story and making the dummy. The cover is an original linocut print painted with watercolor from the first version of the dummy I made.

Meet Avery and Zak
Avery is on the left watering his garden and Zak is on the right about to go hiking. This is the first spread of the new story I'm working on called The Rest of the World. I better go draw some more!
